Port 25 Blocking by Telefonica and other ISP's
You are looking at this page if.......
1) You cannot send any emails via your computer 2) You can receive email with no problems 3) You have SMTP Authentication settings configured correctly 4) You can navigate to web sites without any problem
If all of the above apply, then you are probably experiencing what is commonly known as a "ISP Port 25 Blocking".
Alot of ISP's (Internet Service Providers such as Telefonica, Vodafone, British Telecom etc) are blocking what is called "Port 25" which is the port used to send e-mail. They do this to cut down on the amount of spam that is sent from their networks.
Port 25 blocking these days is rare but it does happen and no, you wont be told about it by your ISP, you will just suddenly find that you cant send any email.
How to test if Port 25 is open To test and confirm if your isp is blocking port 25, you need to run a telnet command from your computer.
Note: Windows Vista does not have Telnet enabled as default, you will need to enable it.
Open Start > Run and type TELNET MAIL.123MARBELLA.COM 25
 |
When you click the ok button, a dos command box will appear and should give you the results similar to the screenshot below.
 |
If you receive a message in the dos command box, saying something like "Connecting......." and nothing else happens, then its quite probable that either your isp or a firewall somewhere is blocking port 25 access.
We would recommend that if you suspect that port 25 is being blocked, you should contact your ISP directly.
What to do if port 25 is actually blocked
If you are a 123 Marbella Client and 123 Marbella handles your email. Simply change your outgoing port settings to port 587
If you are NOT a 123 Marbella Client and your email is handled by another company. These are the details for Telefonica (we cannot gaurantee that these will be accurate)
Support Line: 902 357 000 Business ADSL Support: 902 35 70 22
The Telefonica Support Staff will probably tell you to send an email to the following email addresses (which is pretty daft seeing that your email is not working!) asking them to unblock port 25.
You can use your webmail login to send them an email.
abuse@telefonica.net nemesys@telefonica.es
We would recommend putting the following in the subject line:
"por favor desbloquear el puerto 25 en la linea de adsl #YOURTELNUMBER#"
The bit that says #YOURTELNUMBER# will be the phone number that is assigned/associated to your telefonica adsl line.
In the body of the email include the details that appear on your telefonica bill.
