Traffic building simply means directing surfers to your website. More visitors generally mean higher chances of earning income.

To do it is a hard feat. Doing it yourself is even harder.

As a website owner, you have 2 choices: do it yourself or hire somebody else to do it for you.

If you have a website and submit it to a search engine (which is free), that’s doing it yourself. You may ask somebody else to do this for you at a cost, but the amount of traffic you can expect will generally be the same either way.

Perhaps the most obvious advantage of doing it yourself is that it is cheap. You don’t spend money on making the website. You produce your own site content and design. You just pay for your domain name and web space, and that’s basically it.

If you can afford it, you may hire professionals at traffic building. Just give them instructions and you can worry about other matters pertinent to your business.

It would be great if you have what it takes to run everything on your website. But what if you don’t? Owning a site and maintaining it are two different things.

There are things too technical for website owners, while there are matters that shouldn’t be left to web designers.

Thus, it’s finding the right balance between doing it yourself and hiring professionals that usually generates valuable traffic.

Here are factors that you need to consider when traffic building:

Economics
Learn it well. Be aware of how your target market behaves. Know your competition and their products. How come they sell it cheaper? How do they generate site traffic? Know your marketing options and the cost-benefit ratio of each. If you know how your target market behaves, you will be able to focus your efforts on strategies that are more likely to give results.

Trust
Site visitors value trust. If your site is updated with relevant and reliable content and if you keep true to your promises to your customers, your clients will reward you by coming back and spreading good word about your website.

Consistency
Find out what makes people leave your website and what makes them stay. To retain your customers, you have to consistently deliver what they need.

Tools
Here’s where you give your website exposure so that everyone will know the products and services that you offer. Your options include placing ads, submitting articles to article directories, and becoming a resource person in forums among others.

The best thing to do is not to stick with one tactic. If you can do something, do it yourself. If you can’t, find out who does it well at a price you can afford. Work together with the person you hire. Ask him to create a template according to your style while he takes care of the manageability of your website. Doing so, both of you contribute to the traffic.
